BIOGRAPHY
Joanie has been creating photographs all her life. She remembers her first camera that her grandfather gave her in grade five, a Brownie with a BIG flash! Her second camera was a 35 mm Olympus OM1, bought on a trip to Hong Kong in the 1980’s. This camera was perfect until 2004, when she finally plunged into the digital world. (The Olympus is now a treasured dust collector!)
Largely self-taught, Joanie has enjoyed the feasts for the eyes that Victoria, Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands and Mexico offer up daily! Joanie began selling photo greeting cards in 2001, when she noticed that there were no cards for sale depicting the magic and wonder of Mayne Island. This niche for local and personalized greeting cards continued after returning to Victoria after 7 years of exploring other paradises in B.C. Aside from photo card creation, Joanie also creates three dimensional paper castingsand collage cards, always unique, ever evolving! ‘I love you’ cards using recycled scrabble letters are a one of kind specialty, as are her series of ‘wee’ cards, with a big impact and message! Joanie's greeting cards have been sold for the past 15 years at markets and galleries around British Columbia.

Joanie quit her Government of British Columbia career after twenty-five years, to explore the passions of being an
entrepreneur! Her degree in urban planning and career in training, communication and management and being a people person is the background to this foray into the art world.
For the past ten years Joanie has sold her art work, in addition to working at the Red Mountain Ski Resort, in Rossland, being the Marriage Commissioner on Mayne Island, and a personal assistant on both Mayne and in Victoria. She loves her decision to live and work outside the box and juggle numerous artistic endeavors at a time!
Giving back to her community is important to Joanie and she currently a volunteer at the Monterey Recreation Centre, Oak Bay, hosting the seniors on bus trips out of town and as the centre photographer.
Joanie is the Volunteer Coordinator of the Annual Bowker Creek Brush-Up, the second Sunday of August, providing an outdoor venue for the members of the Oak Bay Artists Society to share their art with the people of the Capital Regional District. Joanie is also a Director of the Oak Bay Artists Society. Society members take part in the Artists’ Studio Fall and Spring Tours sponsored by Recreation Oak Bay. The 2010 Spring Studio Tour is April, 17th and 18th 2010., and the Bowker Creek Brush Up is August, 8th 2010.
